EAGLE SCOUTS: A TRIBUTE

General Information

The Troop is part of the Central Florida Council
and is located in the Sand Lake District.

We are chartered by

All Saints Lutheran Church
12601 Balcombe Road
Orlando, Florida 32837

Although chartered by All Saints Lutheran Church, our troop has
members from many different cultural backgrounds and religions.

We meet weekly at All Saints Lutheran Church
on Monday nights at 7 PM.

Troop 996 has earned the Quality Unit Award for the past Eight years.

Troop 996 is EXTREMELY proud of the young men who have earned the
rank of Eagle Scout. Take a look at the tribute page.

Adult Leadership
Although Troop 996 is a boy run unit, adult leaders are needed for
guidance and mentoring. Troop 996 is extremely proud of our many
active and dedicated trained adult leaders. Many of our leaders
participated in Scouting as youths and most have been adult leaders
throughout their son's Scouting careers. The backgrounds and
experience of our leaders ensure a well rounded program.

Activities
Along with our weekly meetings, Troop 996 boasts an
extremely active schedule.

Camping
Troop 996 camps at least once a month, including a yearly week long
summer camp. In 2006, we attended Camp Sydney Dew in Georgia. We
offer a diverse camping experience that will challenge both the new and
veteran Scouts. Some of the places we've traveled to over the years:

Key West Naval Air Station, Chisholm Trail Adventure Base in Texas,
Gemini Springs, Camp Sand Hill, Camp Lone Oak, Hillsborough State
Park, Camp Thunder,  Camp Sydney Dew, Camp La-No-Che, Camporees
at Winn Dixie Scout Reservation and USS Yorktown in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Our Scouts decide where they want to camp at their PLC meetings.

High Adventure
Along with troop camping, Troop 996 also stages High Adventure trips
for our older Scouts.  There are also High Adventure opportunities every
year at summer camp. In past years the older Scouts went on an EGO
Challenge and hiked the Appalachian Trail at Summer Camp.

Community Service
We believe that service to the community is a very important part of
Scouting. Troop 996 participates in many service projects, both as Eagle
Service Projects and troop activities. We currently Adopt part of
Balcombe Road and Pick up trash 6 times a year.  In past years we
participated in helping Gatorland clean up Shingle Creek in Hunter's
Creek, Clean up of Oak Ridge Cemetery(Jeremy's Eagle Project),
helping with Clean up from the Hurricanes that hit Central Florida in 2004
and we also help Give Kid's the World in Kissimmee.  We plan on
participating in many more events this year.
Boy Scouts of America
"The purposes of the Boy Scouts of America are to
promote, through organization, and cooperation with other
agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and
others, to train them in scout craft, and  to teach them
patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues,
using the methods that were in common use by Boy Scouts
on June 15,  1916."
